1. What are the entry routes to CA Intermediate Course?
    There are two routes to join CA Intermediate Course

Route 1:CA Foundation Route
Route 2:Direct Entry Route

2. How to register to CA Intermediate Course?
     The following categories of students may get their enrolment done to CA Intermediate Course

Option 1:Commerce graduates with 55% marks or more
Option 2:Non-commerce graduates with 60% or more
Option 3:CMA inter passed out students
Option 4:CS executive passed out students
Option 5:After passing CA foundation course
Option 6:Students pursuing final year graduation

3. What type of registration it will be under option 1) to option 6) above?
    Registration under Option 1 to 5 is treated as a valid registration to write CA Intermediate Examination.

    Option 6 shall be referred as “Provisional (temporary) registration”. Your provisional admission to Intermediate course will be confirmed      only when you clear your graduation examination. The marksheet should be submitted within six months of declaration of result of              Graduation examination.

4. If a student made provisional registration to CA Intermediate Course but could not clear the graduation with the prescribed marks               percentage, what will be the consequences?
    (i) His / her provisional registration shall be cancelled.
    (ii) No credit shall be given for the study period already undergone.
    (iii) Refund of registration amount shall be made.

5. A student has enrolled himself / herself for CA Intermediate Course under Direct Entry Route while persuing graduation and                             completed eight months of study period. But his graduation results still not out. Is he eligible to write the CA Intermediate                                 examination?
     No, passing the graduation examination with prescribed marks percentage is vital for writing CA intermediate examination under Direct Entry        Scheme.

6. Can you please guide about the registration process online?

Step 1:Visit https://www.icai.org/post/students-services
Step 2:Click on the second option under the Student Services Segment i.e. Entry level forms (Foundation and Intermediate (Direct Entry))
Step 3:Fill in the personal details asked for. Importantly, provide Email-ID and mobile number wherein OTP will be sent
Step 4:Submit relevant documentary proof asked for [Self attested]
Step 5:After successful submission, ICAI will confirm your registration

7. What shall be the registration fees to CA Intermediate Course?
    Rs. 18,000

    Note:

8 What are the steps to pass CA Intermediate Examination in brief?

Step 1:Get yourself validly registered with ICAI for CA Intermediate Course
Step 2:Wait for minimum 8 months [It is called as Study Period]
Step 3:ICAI notifies about examination schedule in its official website
Step 4:Fill the examination form and pay the examination fees
Step 5:Download admit card and check the examination center allocated to you
Step 6:Write the examination and pass both groups with prescribed percentage of marks

9. How many examinations will be held for CA Intermediate Course in a year?
    As per the ICAI announcement dated 24th April, 2024, the Institute has decided that [from 2024 onwards] Intermediate Course Examinations      will be held thrice a year in the month of May/June, September, and January.

10. What is the cut off date for registration to make yourself eligible for the aforesaid examination?
      Minimum 8 months prior to your examination i.e.
      (i) For May attempt : Registration shall be made on or before 1st September of previous year
      (ii) For September attempt : Registration shall be made on or before 1st January of same year and
      (iii) For January attempt : Registration shall be made on or before 1st May of previous year

11. How many Papers are there at CA Intermediate Level?
     There are two Groups and each group has three papers each [Total – Six Papers]
     Group 1:

12. Is it mandatory to write both groups at single sitting?
     No, it is purely optional. You can write one group at a time also.
     Note:
     Two groups at single sitting might be advantageous in aggregation of marks and it saves time of an individual.

13. Can I register for only one group at a time?
     No, registration for two groups is mandatory.

15. Will ICAI provide study material for the above papers?
     Visit https://cds.icai.org/ui/l/
     [Students will receive an e-mail bearing the login credentials for ordering the Study Material through CDS Portal]
     The study material can be ordered online and the same will be delivered to your home at free of cost as the cost is already covered in the             registration fees.

16. How will be the examination pattern?
     30% case-study based MCQs and 70% descriptive questions in all the six papers of Intermediate Examination.

17. Is there any negative marking for MCQs?
     No, at present negative marking is in place only at the CA Foundation level.

18. What are the passing criteria?
     Get minimum of 40% marks in each paper and minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate of all the papers in that group.
     Note:
     When both groups are written together, advantage of aggregation of marks might come into play [Refer example 5 below]

     Let us explain the passing criteria with few examples

     Example 1:
     A student has decided to write only Group 1
     Paper 1 – 40
     Paper 2 – 40
     Paper 3 – 50
     Total – 130
     Result – FAIL
     [Note : All three papers must be rewritten in the next attempt]

     Example 2:
     A student has decided to write only Group 1
     Paper 1 – 50
     Paper 2 – 50
     Paper 3 – 50
     Total – 150
     Result – PASS

     Example 3:
     A student has decided to write only Group 1
     Paper 1 – 40
     Paper 2 – 40
     Paper 3 – 70
     Total – 150
     Result – PASS

     Example 4:
     A student has decided to write both Groups
     Paper 1 – 50
     Paper 2 – 40
     Paper 3 – 60
     Group 1 : Total – 150

     Paper 4 – 50
     Paper 5 – 50
     Paper 6 – 40
     Group 2 : Total – 140
     Result – Group 1 – PASS and Group 2 – FAIL

     Example 5:
     Paper 1 – 40
     Paper 2 – 40
     Paper 3 – 40
     Group 1 : Total – 120

     Paper 4 – 60
     Paper 5 – 70
     Paper 6 – 50
     Group 2 : Total – 180
     Result – Both Groups Cleared
     [Note : This is the effect of aggregation of marks]

19. In example 4 above, whether both groups should be rewritten in the next attempt?
     No, Only Group 2 in the next attempt shall be written.

20. A student could not clear a Group. But he scored 60 or more marks in a paper in that group. Is there any benefit?
      Yes, he will be given exemption in appearing in that paper for next three attempts.
      Example:
      Attempt 1:
      Group 1
      Paper 1 – 40
      Paper 2 – 40
      Paper 3 – 60
      Total – 140
      Result – FAIL
      [Note : Paper 3 will be exempt till Attempt 4]

21. In Attempt 2 to 4 what will be passing criteria?
      There shall be no changes i.e. Get minimum of 40% marks in each of the remaining papers and minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate of         all the papers in that group.

22. A student could not pass in subsequent 3 attempts after claiming exemption. What will be the consequences?
      You can still opt for claiming exemption from attempt 5 onwards too but you must score minimum 50% in each of the remaining papers
      OR
      You write all the papers (sacrifice exemption) and stick to old 40% & 50% passing criteria.

23. Is there any validity period specified for CA Intermediate Course?
      Yes. It is 5 years from the date of registration.

24. Is there any option to renew your registration after 5 years?
      Yes, you can renew ONLY ONCE for further 5 years by paying a revalidation fee of Rs.400.
